Made in Brazil, blandt andre.
When did your passion for the photographing start, and at what point did you realize that photography is what you wanted to do as a career?
"I always loved books, magazines and printed images, since I was very young; It turned into a career quite by accident, after a friend saw some pictures I took on a New Year’s Eve trip. So following his advice I began studying at a photo school, and I really enjoyed it, and for two years I became an assistant for my teacher at the school, working with her on jobs and also helping with printing and developing, until I started getting small commissions from friends working with fashion here in Brazil."
How did you get from being an aspiring photographer to actually doing it full-time, for a living?
"These friends eventually introduced me to some editors in magazines and I started publishing fashions stories, first at “Marie Claire magazine”, then on to many others, and it grew from there."
What is special about photographing for the fashion industry?
"Fashion photography by nature requires a team - stylist, hair, make up - so if the group works in synch, the results are always more layered, rich, and interesting as an image.
How would you describe your style?
"I always go after some "purity" – less is more, really works for me, so if I can I’ll use daylight, clean spaces and unforced attitudes. I feel there is enough information in a beautiful and well dressed model; some quietness in the image makes for a more balanced result for me.
Exactly what it is you want to say with your photographs, and how do you actually get your photographs to do that?
Can't answer that, really! With this deluge of images in our daily life I hope my images bring some rest to the eye, maybe, some peace and quiet; if I manage to get that in the photograph it is always through the collaboration with the models, some understanding between us, even if unspoken, some intuition on both sides, but to me that is a key ingredient to a special image.
How would you describe your work to someone who has never seen it?
Direct and clear, but always leaving space to personal interpretation, maybe like an open book, without imposing anything specific on a visual level.
What photographic ambitions have you not yet achieved?
Maybe publishing a book combining photographs with some writing.
What motivates you to continue taking pictures economically, politically, intellectually or emotionally?
It is a truly special and privileged thing to do, to work on making beautiful images, even if beautiful can mean so many things to so many people; this is how I make my living, and even in hard times like now it still feels like a blessing to me.
